Sándor Körei

I was born in Mór in 1995,  currently live and work in Budapest.I graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2021, won the Tamás Vígh prize in the same year, and awarded at Derkovits scholarship in 2022. From 2023, I am an artist represented by Ani Molnár Gallery, with whom I had the opportunity to present my work at ARCO Madrid and ArtBrussels this year.

In recent years, my work has focused on the relationship between humans and nature, and on how our understanding of the natural world is shaped by cultural, social, and scientific frameworks of interpretation. Questions of observation and perception are central to my practice.

In my works, I often start from everyday situations, natural phenomena, or their fragments, which I mediate through various means—glass surfaces, translucent layers, and artificial structures. These mediating elements simultaneously enable observation and generate experiences of separation, change, and uncertainty. The natural forms appearing in my works do not function as representations of nature, but as transformed and mediated imprints of it.

From the beginning of my artistic process, the transition between objecthood and image has been a defining concern, as well as time as a formative factor of the work. In my earlier works, the slow processes of decay and transformation were emphasized, while in my more recent projects the rhythm and temporality of perception have become more prominent. Alongside sculptural works, I also address these questions through video and installation-based projects. In recent years, outdoor and site-specific contexts have become increasingly important to me alongside the traditional exhibition space, where environmental factors—light, time, and space—become active participants in the works.
